Baggegård Mink is a minkfarm with 4600 bitches in Ringkøbing in western Denmark. Allan Pedersen, the owner of Baggegård mink farm, has been running the farm since 1980, and runs the farm today with his daughter Maria, who in the long term is set to take over the farm. Besides Allan and Maria, two people are employed at the farm.
Baggegård Mink has invested in the FarmGain mink scales, where one weight solution consists of six scales that can differentiate, depending on the gender of the mink. The software in the main controls ensure that only weight registrations that match the mink’s age and previous registrations are delivered to the growth curve in the analyzing tool GainOnline. This ensures accurate and valid data.
Using the mink scale, Baggegård Minkfarm not only gets an optimal overview of the minks’ weight and wellbeing, they also get very accurate and valid data that enables Allan and Maria to respond quickly to disease outbreaks, for instance. They can also compare the development in weight with other factors such as gender, type, climate, feed types and much more.
It is easier to weigh the animals in the weight groups, since we don’t need to take them out of the cage to weigh them, which stresses the animals. These are the most expensive scales that I have ever bought, but I see the opportunities in getting a better overview of the animals’ growth and well being, and we can get a lot of useful information out of the farm management solution that accompanies the system.
